This is a picture of the 5 point fastener used in the June 2009 revision of the MacBook Pro 15". This is suspected to be a
'Torx Plus Security' 5-point fastener (regular Torx Plus is 6-point). Screwdrivers for these fasteners are solid by
manufacturers including Wiha, but only to proven OEMs and their authorised service centers. If that is what this fastener is,
Apple has imposed a legal, rather than technical, obstacle to DIY servicing of the MacBook Pro. (This does not affect the hard
drive and RAM, which are still user-upgradeable).
Compare with the regular 6-point Torx screw that fastens the motherboard, and for which screwdrivers/bit sets are widely
available.
